What to do with an evacuee suitcase in KS2?
Featuring a selection of questions to prompt a discussion, this evacuee suitcase activity encourages KS2 children to put themselves in the shoes of the suitcase's owner as they prepared for their daunting trip. Providing KS2 students with a child's perspective on evacuation, this resource makes a fantastic addition to any WW2 history lesson.
What did evacuees pack in their suitcase in WW2?
This illustrated resource is ideal for encouraging KS2 students to think about what WW2 evacuee children would have packed in their suitcase and why.
What was evacuation like for children in World War 2?
Being an evacuee must have been scary and exciting at the same time. The children had to leave their families and homes behind and try to fit in with host families in the country. Children had labels attached to them, as though they were parcels.
When was the second evacuation in World War 2?
A second evacuation effort was started after the Germans had taken over most of France. From June 13 to June 18, 1940, around 100,000 children were evacuated (in many cases re-evacuated). When the Blitz began on 7 September 1940, children who had returned home or had not been evacuated were evacuated.
